Meaning of Resilient
Being resilient means being able to recover quickly after facing a difficult situation or a challenge.
We can also say, it is the ability to go back or to return to a former position or situation after facing a challenge.
A challenge is a difficult situation that one faces in life.
Handling challenges in daily life
Examples of challenges we face in life include:
(i) Scoring low marks at school.
(ii) Death of a parent, friend or relative.
(iii) Leaving a bad or good friend.
(iv) Shortage or lack of basic needs.
(v) Not being loved by others.
Being optimistic towards achieving set objectives
Being optimistic means having a strong attitude or belief towards something. It makes us believe that a challenge cannot stop us from achieving our goals or objectives. Being optimistic is also being positive. We should take positive side of everything or situation we face.
A person who is not optimistic is called a pessimist. A pessimist looks at things in a negative way and ends up in despair, thus he/she fails to achieve life objectives.
Learning by analysing issues critically
To analyse something is to examine it carefully or to dig into a matter so as to know it well. Another word for ‘analyse’ is probe.
Some of the things we analyse how they work are
(i) Radio - How does a radio work?
(ii) Computer – How does a computer operate?
(iii) Floating of a ship – What makes a ship float on water?
Probing enables us to:
(i) gain new knowledge.
(ii) make correct decisions.
(iii) know whether something is true or false.
(iv) know how something works.
(v) know advantages or disadvantages of something.
We make right decisions by weighing the advantages and the disadvantages. Then we do it if the advantages are more than the disadvantages; and we don’t do it if the disadvantages are more than advantages.
