Land Transport Regulatory Authority - LATRA. The Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA) is a Government Regulatory Authority established by the Act of Parliament No. 3 of 2019.
The Act repelled the act of the former regulator, Surface and Marine Transport Regulatory Authority (SUMATRA).
The Authority is set to regulate the land transport sectors particularly, transportation of goods and passengers (commuter buses, intercity buses, goods carrying vehicles, taxis, motorcycles and try cycles), railways and cable transport.
LATRA has its Head Office in Dodoma and has regional offices in all twenty-six (26) regions of Mainland Tanzania.
ROAD TRANSPORT LICENSING SECTION
This Section perform the following activities: -
i. Issue, renew and cancel license and permits for commercial vehicles;
ii. Issue cross boarder road transport permits;
iii. Develop and review regulations and standards for commercial vehicles;
iv. To promote competition and prevent the abuse of the monopolistic position in the road transport sub sector;
v. Prepare bus schedule and timetable of passenger service vehicles;
vi. Establish and review passenger vehicle routes;
vii. Develop code of conducts for operators, drivers and crew; and
viii. Resolve customer’s complaints relating to licensing.
Required documents
a) Vehicle registration card;
b) A valid Insurance Document;
c) Vehicle inspection document from the Police Force Road Safety along with its payment receipt.
