Mzumbe University was established by the Mzumbe University Charter, 2007 under Section 25 of the Universities Act. No. 7 of 2005 which repealed Mzumbe University Act. No 9 of 2001.
As a Training Institute, the University boasts of over 50 years experience of training in the administration of justice, business management, public administration, accountancy, finance, political science and good governance.

CATEGORY B: FOREIG APPLICANTS (NON-NATIONALS) ANNUAL FEES PAYABLE TO THE UNIVERSITY is USD 6000
The fees to the University may be payable in two installments, each at the beginning of each semester as follows;
Semester One USD 3,000
Semester Two USD 3,000
Note:
1) A candidate may be registered as a part-time or a full-time student.
A full-time candidate shall be one who registers into a programme by dedicating 100% of his/her time to studies and is thus expected to accomplish his PhD studies in three (3) years.
An allowance of four (4) extensions of six months each will be granted during the entire Ph.D. programme, amounting to total duration of five (5) years.
A part-time candidate shall be one who combines work and studies and is expected to accomplish his PhD studies in five (5) years.
An allowance of six (6) extensions of six months each will be granted during the entire Ph.D programme, amounting to total duration of seven (7) years.
A fee indicated above shall be reflected accordingly. That is, the final year fee (Tshs. 4,000,000) for full-time students shall be paid in the third year and consequently fifth year for part-timers.
2) The examination fee (Tshs. 820,000/-) payable in the final year caters for two components,
namely; examination of the thesis and the viva voce.

C: INDICATIVE INFORMATION ON STUDENT DIRECT COSTS (PAYABLE TO THE STUDENTS)
The following information may be useful in estimating costs that are payable directly to the student.
However the costs shown below are only indicative of the average market rates hence, it is uponn students and their sponsors to reach an agreeable cost for them to pursue their programmes comfortably.
All our PhD programmes are non-residential.
1) Private accommodation is available off-campus in private houses around the campus at a cost of between Tshs. 10,000/= and Tshs. 20,000/= per day. You need to make your own arrangements through www.munyuestate.com. The Dean of Students, however, may assist if contacted.
2) Food is estimated at Tshs. 10,000/= to Tshs. 15,000/= per day.
3) Cost for research and thesis writing should be determined by individual sponsors or guardians though it is approximated between Tshs. 10,000,000/= and Tshs. 20,000,000/=, depending on the type of research and where it is conducted.
4) Book allowances range between Tshs. 300,000/= and Tshs. 800,000/= annually.
5) The University reserves the right to change fees at any time without notice.
6) Fees once paid are not refundable.
