The Examinations Council of Tanzania has made improvements to the system for awarding the results of Testing and national examinations at the Secondary education level.

Those improvements have been held following the views of education stakeholders to the Government regarding the need to have better levels of achievement and grades in the system of total marks (Division).

PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING NATIONAL EXAMINATION RESULTS

The processing of the results of the Form Two, Form Four and Form Six examinations will take into account the levels of marks, achievement grades and the procedure of use of the continuous score (CA) as follows:-

(a) Mark Standards (Viwango Vya Ufaulu)

(b) Grades of Achievement (Madaraja ya Ufaulu)

(i) Grades of Achievement will be in the system of Total Point Grading System or Division.

A candidate who has done at least 7 subjects for Form second and fourth and at least three special subjects (combination) for the sixth form will be awarded Division I, II, III or IV according to the total scope of points as follows:

(ii) A candidate who has done less than seven subjects for the Form Two and Form Four Examinations will be considered to have passed with a minimum grade of Division IV, if he passes at least two subjects in Grade D or one subject in Grade A, B or C.

In addition, a Form Six (ACSEE) candidate who did less subjects will be awarded a minimum pass of the Division IV if he passes at least two subjects in Grade S or one subject in Grades A, B, C, D and E.

(c) Use of Continuity Marks (CA)

The ratio between continuous marks (CA) and final exam marks (FE) will be 30:70. Analysis of the contribution of 30 CA marks for Form Four and Form Six will be as follows:

Generally: The system of awarding results by grade structure of total marks (Division) was used by the Tanzania Examinations Council from 1976 to 2013.

Thus, it is Council's hope that this system will be productive because it is well understood by the majority of education stakeholders.
