Meaning of respect
Respect means high regard or honour for others. Respect also means showing honour to someone or something.
A community is a group of people who live together in the same place and have a common ancestor.
Examples of communities are:
(i) School community
(ii) Village community
(iii) Prison community
(iv) College community
(v) Street community
(vi) Church community
(vii) Class community
(viii) Mosque community
(ix) Family community
Loving oneself and others
You need to respect all people.
Ways of showing love to oneself
Love is a feeling of concern. Love for oneself means showing concern for yourself.
Ways of showing love to oneself include:
Having enough sleep.
(ii) Being clean and smart.
(iii) Eating a balanced diet.
(iv) Dressing decently.
(v) Dressing according to the weather.
(vi) Doing exercises.
(vii) Not taking drugs or illegal drinks.
(viii) Protecting yourself from diseases.
(ix) Watching good films and movies.
(x) Working hard in class.
(xi) Not playing with dangerous animals and insects.
(xii) Not playing on roads in trenches.
Ways of showing love and concern to other people
Loving others means showing concern and respect to all people around you.
Loving others makes them have a feeling of self worth and a feeling that they are recognised.
You need to respect all the people you live within a community.
We show love to others by doing the following:
1. Greeting them.
2. Giving them food, especially to the needy.
3. Helping them to carry the load especially the elders.
4. Helping your classmates to solve problems.
5. Helping household duties to show love to your family members.
6. Donating things like food and clothes.
7. Talking to them in a polite language.
8. Showing them respect.
9. Listening to them in their company.
10. Being decent when in their company.
11. Appreciating their good deeds/congratulating them on their success.
Recognizing and developing your talents
A talent is a natural ability one is born with to do something. Each should know his/her talent and develop them by doing practice.
Some of the talents are:
(i) Swimming
(ii) Drawing
(iii) Painting
(iv) Singing
(v) Playing ball games
(vi) Plaiting hair
(vii) Public speaking
(viii) Carving
Things that you should not do to other people
The following are things we should not do to others because they make them feel bad and break relationships in a community.
(i) Disrespecting them.
(ii) Use of indecent language.
(iii) Being unkind.
(iv) Telling lies, backbiting and nicknaming them.
(v) Humiliating them.
(vi) Stealing other people’s properties.
