Tanzania National Parks' location and size 2022/2023, Serengeti was designated as the first National Park by the Tanganyika National Parks Ordinance CAP [412] of 1959, which also established the body that is today known as Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA).
TANAPA is currently administered under the National Parks Act, Chapter 282 of the United Republic of Tanzanian Laws, which was revised in 2002.
Tanzanian conservation is governed by the Wildlife Conservation Act of 1974, which allows for the formation of protected areas and regulates their structure and maintenance. National parks provide the most comprehensive protection for natural resources.
According to the figure below, TANAPA had expanded to 22 national parks by September 2019, totaling more than 99,306.5 square.
Establishment of Tanzania National Park
